EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste

This week, FoodDrinkEurope played a key role in two milestone events that validated the industry’s efforts to fight and prevent food waste.

On Tuesday, 29 November, FoodDrinkEurope attended the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste, where the Commission launched an initiative to cut food waste in half by 2030. Earlier this month, the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (PAFF) biological safety of the food chain section endorsed the ‘Every Meal Matters’ food donation guidance jointly produced by FoodDrinkEurope, the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA),  and EuroCommerce. The ‘Every Meal Matters’ guidance formed the basis of the draft EU food donation guidelines that Member States unanimously supported at this meeting. At the 29 November launch meeting of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste EU Health and Food Safety Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis also flagged up the guidelines.
The next day, FoodDrinkEurope’s Chairman of the Food Wastage Task Force, David Bellamy, presented FoodDrinkEurope’s work during a meeting on ‘REDUCING FOOD WASTE - IMPROVING FOOD SAFETY’, hosted by Biljana Borzan MEP, where Commissioner Andriukaitis also delivered the keynote address. 
FoodDrinkEurope was recognised as an important contributor to the ongoing work by both the Commission and the other stakeholders, including Biljana Borzan. FoodDrinkEurope's work was also depicted in the lively and engaging discussions that took place on twitter.
